Requirements
Must:
We are looking for candidates who meet the following essential criteria:
- Educated to Degree Level. However, for exceptional candidates, significant working experience and a demonstrable track record will be accepted as an alternative.
- An understanding of current developments and trends in IT.
- Awareness of ITIL service delivery and support processes.
- Experience with:
- Working within structured projects
- Third line support, troubleshooting, and resolving major incidents
- AD and EntraID design and maintenance
- Server and desktop deployment including virtualization, configuration, installation, and upgrades
- Performance management, capacity monitoring & optimization, and security management
- Endpoint and Mobile Device Management (e.g., Intune and JAMF)
- Application virtualization
- Systems management, preferably SCCM
- Desktop OS (preferably Windows 10 and above, and macOS)
- Windows Server 2012R2 and above
- Microsoft and Office 365
- Exchange 2019
- Redhat Linux
- SAN management
Responsibilities
As our IT Systems Engineer / 2nd Line & 3rd Line Support Technician, you will be responsible for:
- Technical planning and implementation of End User Computing activities such as desktop builds and group policy deployments.
- Developing and supporting Windows and Linux Servers on associated hardware.
- Developing and supporting Virtualized Servers (e.g., using VMware or Nutanix).
- Configuring and deploying Applications (e.g., using System Center Configuration Manager, Citrix, Intune, JAMF) and providing third line support where required.
- VDI development and support.
- Developing and managing the university's Identity Management Systems.
- Administering, maintaining, and supporting M365 services, providing and implementing recommendations for change.
- SAN management and development.
- Developing and supporting Windows 10/11 and macOS systems and associated applications (e.g., Office 365, Adobe CC Suite, Engineering Applications, etc.).
- Ensuring that all relevant support documentation is maintained to reflect changes and additions to the university’s infrastructure.
- Adhering to and contributing to change control processes.
- Adhering to project development standards.
- Ensuring work is delivered in accordance with current IT security and quality standards and procedures.
- Acting as a mentor to colleagues in developing their technical skills and understanding of the university's IT systems and standards.
Description
This full-time, permanent position offers a competitive salary of £46,161 - £49,337 per annum, including a market supplement of £10,553 per annum pro-rata, which is reviewed biennially. The role is based in Garthdee, Aberdeen, and allows for hybrid working with a standard working week of 35 hours. In addition to a generous pension scheme, you will benefit from 46 days of annual leave (including statutory days), an onsite nursery and sports center, and a range of voluntary health and travel benefits.
