Must:
I am looking for candidates who possess a strong understanding of data governance principles, frameworks, and best practices, such as DAMA, DCAM, and CDMC. You should have experience leading data governance initiatives within a public sector or geospatial organization, as well as knowledge of data management, data quality, metadata, and regulatory compliance. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have strategic leadership experience, demonstrating the ability to align data governance with our organization's strategic objectives and articulate the business case for investment. Familiarity with program/project management structures like MSP or Agile is essential, as is the capability to manage external suppliers to ensure they meet predetermined milestones and outputs as specified in our Data Governance Operating Model (DGOM) business case. Experience in budget management, risk assessment, and issue resolution is also crucial to keep the project on track.
Responsibilities
In this role, I will rely on you to oversee our Data Governance project, ensuring it aligns with our organizational objectives while managing risks and guaranteeing delivery. I expect you to act as an intelligent customer for our consultancy work, validating approaches and ensuring a high quality of delivery. You're responsible for embedding the capability developed into our organization and defining an appropriate skills transfer and knowledge handover regarding data governance frameworks, processes, and tools. You will also advocate for the project, build consensus among stakeholders, and develop internal skills to promote a data governance culture.
Description
I value the experience of candidates who understand stakeholder engagement at executive and senior leadership levels, and who have previously collaborated with technology, data, and business teams to ensure that governance aligns with operational needs. Excellent communication and influencing skills are necessary, particularly the ability to translate technical data governance concepts into clear business value. While not essential, experience in cloud data governance and managing data in hybrid cloud environments will be an advantage, as will knowledge of AI/ML governance requirements. Experience in managing data operating model transformations at an enterprise level is also desirable.
