Your background should include experience with IT and network infrastructure, including servers, switches, firewalls, WAN, LAN, routers, and proxy servers, along with management software and IT security tools. Additionally, you should be familiar with designing and commissioning systems to align with industry standards and certifications, cyber security hygiene practices, and network monitoring software/tools. Experience with cloud-native products, virtualization, containerization, and database technologies is essential. Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must, along with a proactive approach and a “never-fail” attitude in ambiguous situations. Desirable criteria include familiarity with Microsoft Azure DevOps and Agile working practices. A keen interest in physics and communications, such as time and frequency measurement, real-time monitoring of electronic hardware, and satellite communication systems, is also advantageous.

As a member of our team, you will be responsible for developing comprehensive network designs that support our scientific and engineering capabilities, ensuring robustness, scalability, and security. You will oversee the specification, selection, and procurement of networking equipment, ensuring compatibility and integration with existing and future scientific instruments. Your role will involve configuring and deploying networking solutions, including routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices tailored to specific project requirements. You will also need to maintain security hygiene by staying updated with best practices and collaborating with security specialists. Executing integration tests, documenting, and analyzing results to identify vulnerabilities and areas for improvement will be part of your duties. You will provide expert-level troubleshooting for complex network issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance of scientific equipment and IT infrastructure. As a collaborative leader, you will work closely with scientific, engineering, and IT leadership to ensure our technology solutions align with research objectives. Mentoring junior staff and maintaining meticulous records to support quality assurance processes will be key components of your role. Finally, engaging with a variety of stakeholders to meet and understand networking requirements will be essential.
