Requirements
Must:
To be successful as a Senior Database Engineer, you should have strong experience as a Principal Level Database Administrator, with a focus on PostgreSQL. A proven track record of implementing and leading SRE practices across large organizations or complex teams is essential. You should also have extensive hands-on experience with Containers and Kubernetes, as well as in-depth experience with DevOps automation tools such as code versioning (git), JIRA, Ansible, and database CI/CD tools and their implementation. Additionally, some highly valued skills may include expert expertise with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automation/migration tasks, experience working on data migration tools and software, and expertise in system configuration management tools such as Chef and Ansible for database server configurations.
Responsibilities
In this role, I expect you to apply software engineering techniques, automation, and the best practices in incident response to ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of systems, platforms, and the technologies that support them. Your accountabilities will include ensuring the availability, performance, and scalability of systems and services through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and capacity planning. You will be responsible for the resolution, analysis, and response to system outages and disruptions, implementing measures to prevent similar incidents from recurring. You will also develop tools and scripts to automate operational processes, reduce manual workload, increase efficiency, and improve system resilience. Additionally, you’ll need to monitor and optimize system performance and resource usage while identifying and addressing bottlenecks. Collaboration with development teams to integrate best practices for reliability, scalability, and performance into the software development lifecycle will be crucial. I expect you to stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to our organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.

This position can be based in our Knutsford or Glasgow locations. As a Vice President, you will be expected to contribute to or set strategy, drive requirements, and make recommendations for change. You will plan resources, budgets, and policies, manage and maintain them, deliver continuous improvements, and escalate breaches of policies and procedures. If managing a team, you will define jobs and responsibilities, plan for the department’s future needs and operations, counsel employees on performance, and contribute to pay decisions/changes. You may also lead specialists to influence departmental operations in alignment with both strategic and tactical priorities, while balancing short and long-term goals to ensure that budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements.
