Java Low-Level/Low-Latency Engineer
£100,000 - 100,000
McGregor Boyall Associates Limited
Charing Cross, South East London
£100,000 - 100,000
Requirements
Must:
We are looking for a deep understanding of systems-level programming, with proficiency in Java and/or Rust, C, or C++. Applicants should have experience with manual memory management, concurrency, and multithreading. Familiarity with Linux internals, system calls, and networking is essential. Bonus points will be given for experience in kernel bypass technologies (such as Solarflare or DPDK), building custom allocators, or working in no_std environments. Prior experience in trading, real-time systems, or performance-sensitive environments is desirable, but previous finance experience is not a requirement.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will design and develop low-latency, high-throughput microservices in Java. You will be responsible for building and refining core components of our proprietary event-driven framework. Collaborating closely with architects, FPGA, and infrastructure engineers, you will focus on optimizing performance across the stack. You will also develop systems with an emphasis on resilience, fault-tolerance, and scalability, and drive performance improvements using hardware-aware optimizations and kernel-bypass techniques.
Description
We are a leading financial technology organization focused on building ultra-low latency systems at scale. This is an opportunity to join a high-caliber team of engineers working on the top technology product within our business. You will be pushing the boundaries of performance and reliability in a demanding, mission-critical environment, where the systems you help build operate in the microsecond range and require extensive knowledge of operating systems, networking, and concurrency. This position offers a competitive base salary of up to approximately £130,000, depending on your experience, along with a hybrid working model of 2-3 days a week in our London office. We provide excellent benefits including a pension plan, medical coverage, 27 days of leave, and bonuses. This is a career-defining opportunity to work on some of the most cutting-edge low-latency systems in the industry, within a team that values technical depth, innovation, and clean engineering in an environment where every microsecond counts. We are an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate on any grounds.
