Must:
To be successful as a Mainframe Design Engineer, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:
- An understanding of the lifecycle of a loan or other products within a lending platform, including the ability to map a customer journey to specific implementations across different platforms.
- Integration experience along with a strong background in data integration and middleware.
- A demonstrated ability to define data provenance across systems.
- Logical thinking with problem-solving abilities, alongside effective communication and presentation skills, allowing you to tailor messages for a broad range of audiences.
- Experience dealing with third parties and strong communication skills to bridge technical and business teams effectively.
- Familiarity with data and mainframe technologies, such as COBOL and DB2.
Responsibilities
As a Mainframe Design Engineer, your key responsibilities will include:
- Designing, developing, and improving software using various engineering methodologies, which will enhance business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
- Delivering high-quality software solutions through industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools, ensuring that the code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Collaborating cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration that aligns with business objectives.
- Participating in code reviews and promoting a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing among peers.
- Staying informed about industry technology trends and innovations and actively contributing to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adhering to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities and protect sensitive data while ensuring secure software solutions.
- Implementing effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
Description
This role is based in Knutsford, and you will be expected to consult on complex issues, providing guidance to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated matters. You will identify ways to mitigate risks and develop new policies or procedures that support the control and governance agenda.
Taking ownership of managing risk and strengthening controls related to your work is crucial. Your responsibilities will also require understanding how different areas coordinate and contribute to the organization’s objectives. Engaging in complex analysis of data from both internal and external sources will be necessary to solve problems creatively and effectively.
Communicating complex information to stakeholders, which may include sensitive or challenging content, will be an integral part of your role.
