Requirements
Must:
- An interest in developing a career in the IT profession.
- Clear oral and written communication skills.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office.
- Awareness of or interest in networking concepts (experience is welcome but not required).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work within a small team environment but also independently.
Responsibilities
As a Trainee IT Technician, I will maintain and develop the school’s IT resources for safe and effective use by pupils and staff, providing support and guidance in the appropriate use of IT. I will monitor and assist in managing our IT support service. My key tasks will include:
- Connecting, setting up, and checking PCs and peripherals for normal operation.
- Performing routine maintenance tasks, including installing software and resolving basic hardware issues.
- Maintaining common hardware found in schools and managing college-owned devices such as iPads.
- Updating information on the school’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and maintaining user accounts and permissions.
- Following health and safety procedures and conducting basic safety checks.
- Documenting support requests accurately and working collaboratively with the team and external suppliers to meet service level agreements.
- Engaging in personal development through relevant courses and staying updated on major IT developments.
Description
The Trainee IT Technician role is ideal for anyone beginning their career in IT or someone with relevant experience. At Lancing College, I work in a dynamic environment that fosters the learning of a broad range of IT skills. With a network of approximately 600 PCs and laptops supporting over 1500 users on four sites, I have the opportunity to work with various technologies, including Apple iMacs and a BYOD policy for pupils. As part of the role, I must have my own mode of transport, as I will be visiting Lancing College Prep schools twice a week. I am eager to be part of a thriving IT Department where I can contribute to the education and support of pupils and staff in their IT needs. I understand the importance of flexibility and teamwork, and I will actively seek to improve my knowledge and skills in this ever-evolving field. This position is full-time and permanent, with a starting salary of £26,780 per year, inclusive of benefits such as company pension, health programs, and on-site parking.
