Requirements
Must:
We are looking for a hands-on Senior Quality Engineer with extensive knowledge and experience in delivering native mobile apps for iOS and/or Android devices. You should possess:
- Knowledge of the architectural patterns used to build mobile applications.
- Practical experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery of native mobile apps and associated back-end services.
- Experience coaching teams on Continuous Testing and shift left/right approaches.
- The ability to critically evaluate engineering methods using questioning techniques to lead discussions about quality risks and responses.
- Experience in leading elaboration activities (such as three amigos sessions) to ensure the specificity, consistency, and testability of requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Proficiency in reading and writing coded solutions for various engineering needs, which may include pairing with developers to enhance unit and functional tests, developing testing utilities, maintaining pipelines, and creating coded checks like mobile test automation or automated tests for back-end APIs.
- Working knowledge of modern testing tools and frameworks for mobile apps, preferably XCTest/XCUITest and/or Espresso.
- Skills in analyzing mobile non-functional risks (performance, resource usage, variable bandwidth, device compatibility, accessibility, etc.) and advising on mitigation strategies.
- An understanding of operational and non-functional requirements (e.g., resilience, performance, and observability) and how they are implemented and tested.
Responsibilities
In this role, I will embed you into a software engineering product team that typically includes a Delivery Lead, iOS and Android Engineers, and Analysts delivering our mobile apps. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Creating and executing the team’s quality checks while mentoring others in best testing practices.
- Coaching team members on quality approaches, deployment methods, and observability.
- Contributing to the team’s codebase and pipeline configuration.
- Supporting the team’s workflow from initial business needs to monitoring services in production.
- Maintaining a user-centered perspective on what constitutes quality from a customer's viewpoint.
- Mentoring junior members of the Quality Engineering Community to aid their personal development.
- Communicating effectively with a diverse range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Advocating for improved engineering methods and managing stakeholder relationships.
- Exploring opportunities to take on people management responsibilities, if that aligns with your career goals.
- Committing to continuous skill improvement, keeping up to date with the latest technologies and techniques.
Description
This is a hybrid working role, where your time will be split between working from home (in the UK) and our offices in London and Bracknell. Our engineers typically attend the office once or twice a month, but there may be occasions where more frequent office attendance is necessary, up to twice a week if required. We offer a competitive salary of up to £92,500, depending on experience, for a permanent contract.
