Requirements
Must:
- Proficient knowledge and understanding of PHP, particularly when developing within a Linux/Apache/MariaDB/PHP stack.
- Ability to effectively use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with an understanding of browser support & standards and W3C compliance.
- Understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) model principles and web application design patterns.
- Familiarity with common web application security vulnerabilities and appropriate mitigations.
- Experience with PHP frameworks, particularly Symfony, and knowledge of PHP templating engines such as Smarty and Twig.
- Practical appreciation of database design and working practices.
- Understanding of RESTful API development principles, including structuring, documenting, versioning, testing, and stubbing/mocking.
- Experience in developing scalable, secure, high-performance, database-driven web applications and automated unit tests alongside code (e.g., with PHPUnit, Playwright).
- Knowledge and experience in interfacing with Oracle and Apache Solr.
- Familiarity with automation, Continuous Integration, and Delivery pipelines (e.g., GitLab).
- Experience with third-party API service integration.
- Nice-to-have: Knowledge of Typescript & React Framework, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS.
Responsibilities
- Writing high-quality code adhering to agreed team and regulatory standards, and reviewing others' code.
- Collaborating with the team to deliver significant new features for the business.
- Providing engineering support for existing applications when necessary.
- Ensuring that both existing and newly developed solutions are reliable, secure, performant, and maintainable.
- Maintaining awareness of current secure coding practices and ensuring code produced aligns with these standards.
- Developing and evidencing automated tests alongside code produced.
- Documenting all solutions produced to agreed team standards.
- Demonstrating a willingness to learn and further embrace technologies and techniques adopted by the development team.
- Cultivating strong working relationships within the working squad and the wider business.
