Requirements
Must:
- 4+ years of professional WordPress development experience
- Expertise in custom theme development (no reliance on page builders)
- Proficient in Tailwind CSS
- Strong fundamentals in PHP
- Experience with ACF (flexible fields, repeaters, blocks)
- Ability to translate Figma designs to code
- Knowledge of Core Web Vitals optimization
- Familiarity with Git workflows and Vite/Webpack
- Experience with Cloudflare
- A portfolio showcasing real production work
Nice To Have:
- Experience with Cloudflare Workers
- Knowledge of Gutenberg blocks
- Familiarity with React or Vue
- Background in editorial/media
- Understanding of AI-assisted development workflows
Responsibilities
As our senior front-end WordPress developer, I will rely on you to take ownership of our websites and lead performance optimization across our stack. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Developing custom WordPress themes and engineering the front-end with Tailwind CSS
- Optimizing Core Web Vitals and conducting Lighthouse assessments
- Configuring Cloudflare and tuning performance
- Launching new websites from scratch
- Creating scalable ACF-based editorial tooling
- Working on our high-growth cybersecurity publication and new website launches across various verticals
- Improving performance, accessibility, and front-end quality
- Crafting modern, flexible components for editorial workflows
- Integrating APIs and third-party services
- Maintaining Production, Staging, and Development workflows with clean CI/CD
- Implementing schema markup, SEO improvements, and speed enhancements
- Managing Cloudflare caching and rules engine work
Description
I am excited to offer a salary range of £40k–£55k for this full-time, permanent role. This position is hybrid, requiring 2–3 days a week in our Buckfastleigh office. The benefits include 23 days of holiday plus bank holidays, free parking, autonomy, ownership, and the opportunity to make a significant impact.
