Requirements

Must:
- Previous relevant work experience. - An in-depth knowledge of the Linux operating system, including administration and support. - A good working knowledge of data storage protocols (e.g., NFS, SMB); networking (TCP/IP, firewalls, routing); VMs and containers (e.g., Apptainer/Singularity). - Experience using at least one high-level programming language (e.g., BASH, Perl or Python). - The ability to work effectively within a team and establish productive relationships with academics, researchers, and both technical and non-technical IT staff. - Enthusiasm and initiative to anticipate problems and find solutions. - Good communication and presentation skills. - A keen appetite for learning new skills and technologies.

Responsibilities

- Develop and support the research VM platform, edge compute service, and potentially HTCondor. - Provision mainly Linux VMs, along with some MS Windows VMs, and create templates. - Maintain and secure the operational integrity of VMs and provide user support. - Design, build, and support dedicated computational and data storage edge compute platforms for research groups. - Develop and provide operational support for our HTCondor service. - The role will involve approximately 50% technical work and 50% user support while engaging with the research community.
