Must:
We require candidates to hold UK SC Clearance, which is mandatory prior to starting the role. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record in migrating AWS Workspaces to Azure Virtual Desktop, with deep knowledge of AVD architecture, design, and best practices. Hands-on expertise in AVD management, configuration, and deployment is essential, along with skills in managing Resource Pools, Host Groups, VM Images, Applications, and User Access. Proficiency in FSLogix configuration for user customization is necessary. Candidates should also possess strong experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Repos, Terraform, ARM Templates, Azure CLI, and PowerShell. A solid understanding of Windows OS, Group Policy Management, and application troubleshooting is expected, along with strong problem-solving and analytical skills. The ability to work independently and remotely, with occasional travel to site, is critical.
Responsibilities
In this role, I will lead the migration of AWS Workspaces (Windows 2016 OS) to Azure Virtual Desktop within agreed timelines. I will perform application compatibility checks, user acceptance testing (UAT), and pilot migrations, ensuring seamless transitions for both developer and standard user instances. Hypercare support during and after migration will be part of my responsibilities, and I will maintain detailed migration documentation and handover materials for business-as-usual (BAU) teams. Additionally, I will manage and administer the AVD infrastructure, including host pools, images, applications, user/application access, and resource groups. I will configure and support multi-user environments using FSLogix and storage solutions like NetApp. Ensuring high availability, security, and disaster recovery capabilities across AVD components is also a priority. I will operate and manage the AVD environment utilizing Terraform, ARM Templates, Azure CLI, GitHub Repos, and PowerShell, while maintaining Windows environments (Group Policies, organizational units, patching, and application configuration). Furthermore, I will mentor and cross-skill junior SMEs to develop team capability.
Description
This contract position is remote, with occasional travel to Gloucester Business Park, and is expected to last for 3 months. The day rate is £425, and the contract falls under IR35 regulations. Out-of-hours support may be required depending on project needs, and this is an individual contributor role without direct reports. Essential skills also include an understanding of Agile frameworks (Scrum) and tools such as Jira and ServiceNow, as well as strong Azure fundamentals and knowledge of cloud computing best practices. Candidates with experience building and maintaining Terraform-based Infrastructure as Code (IaC) pipelines, as well as excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills, will be highly regarded.
