Requirements

Must:
We are looking for a Software Developer who has experience in the full software development lifecycle, from design through to delivery. You should be proficient in at least one programming language, such as Java or Python, and have experience working with APIs, relational databases, and version control systems (e.g., Git). A solid understanding of agile delivery and collaborative software development is essential, along with the ability to write clear, readable, and maintainable code. Excellent teamwork and communication skills are a must.

Responsibilities

As a Software Developer with us, you will develop, test, and maintain secure, reliable, and efficient software applications. You will participate in agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups. Collaborating with colleagues, you will design and implement APIs, services, and integrations while contributing to code reviews and continuous integration processes. Troubleshooting and resolving production issues as part of a 'you build it, you run it' culture will also be part of your role. Staying updated with modern engineering practices and contributing ideas for improvement will be encouraged.

At HM Land Registry (HMLR), we are modernising the systems and services that underpin property ownership across England and Wales, working with some of the most valuable data in the UK economy. You will be joining our Software Development Practice, which is part of the wider Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) directorate. In this environment, you will work in multidisciplinary agile teams, collaborating with product managers, delivery managers, testers, business analysts, and user researchers to design, build, and maintain our digital cloud services and legacy systems. Our tech stack includes languages like Java and Python, frameworks such as Spring Boot and Django, and cloud technologies including AWS and OpenShift. You will have opportunities to engage with various projects central to our digital transformation, ranging from rebuilding core registration systems to modernising legacy applications. We offer a competitive salary up to £44,400, with a 29% employer pension contribution and full Civil Service benefits. Our working environment is flexible and hybrid, allowing you to work from one of our 14 office locations across the UK.
