Requirements

- Experience in documenting processes and implementing risk management strategies.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a Linux patching strategy to ensure consistent application of critical security patches and updates across all relevant systems.
- Collaborate with business owners, security, infrastructure, and application teams to optimize and reduce Linux infrastructure costs.
- Establish a regular patching cadence with clear timelines and processes to maintain system security and compliance.
- Perform hands-on patch management, including identification, testing, deployment, and verification of patches for Linux OS and associated applications.
- Coordinate patching activities with internal teams and suppliers to minimize disruption.
- Define and document patching processes, including rollback procedures, risk assessments, and communication plans.
- Provide knowledge transfer and training to customer staff to facilitate effective ongoing BAU patch management.
- Monitor and report on patching status, compliance, and any issues arising from deployments.
- Ensure alignment with customer security policies, NHS standards, and industry best practices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve patch-related issues to maintain system performance and availability.
- Foster collaboration between security, infrastructure, and application teams for optimal patch management outcomes.
- Mentor and support junior engineers to build self-sufficiency in patch management.
- Ensure service delivery is structured, transparent, and collaborative, enabling immediate improvements and building sustainable internal capability within the customer's organization.
Description
We are seeking to recruit two strong Linux Support Engineers for long-term assignments in the Manchester area. The successful candidates will join our dedicated team delivering a comprehensive Linux patching support service for a large customer base. You will be instrumental in establishing and executing a robust, managed approach to patch management. A strong focus will be placed on knowledge transfer, enabling the customer's staff to take ownership of patch management as part of their ongoing business-as-usual operations.
