Must:
To be successful in this role, I am looking for candidates with:
- Experience in development with any of the following technologies: Java, .NET, Python, Angular/React, Scala, or Go.
- Familiarity with CI/CD and automation, especially with GitLab.
- Experience with infrastructure, whether it's public cloud-based (AWS, Azure) or on-premise cloud implementation.
Additional highly valued skills include:
- Knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Understanding of security principles and best practices in application and automation implementation.
- Flexibility to adopt and learn new technologies in line with those across the business unit.
Candidates may be assessed on key critical skills relevant for success in this role, which includes risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology skills, as well as job-specific technical skills.
Responsibilities
As a Software Engineer at Barclays, my main responsibilities will include:
- Designing, developing, and improving software using various engineering methodologies to deliver business, platform, and technology capabilities to customers and colleagues.
- Developing and delivering high-quality software solutions using industry-aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools.
- Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Collaborating cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements and devise solution strategies.
- Participating in code reviews and promoting a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing among peers.
- Staying informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contributing to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adhering to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities and protect sensitive data.
- Implementing effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
Description
This role is based in Glasgow or Knutsford. As an Assistant Vice President, I will advise and influence decision-making, contribute to policy development, and be responsible for operational effectiveness. I will collaborate closely with other functions or business divisions, leading a team performing complex tasks while influencing the entire business function. I will set objectives, coach employees, and evaluate their performance relative to these objectives.
