Must:
- Hands-on experience with Data Warehouses and Business Intelligence tooling
- Fluency in Sage X3 within manufacturing and distribution organizations
- Proficiency in Sage SEI or ZapBI (Sage Data & Analytics) and Power BI
- Strong SQL skills, including advanced scripting and optimization
- Advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities, including Power Query, pivot tables, and VBA/macros
- Experience in developing robust semantic models and authoring well-documented DAX calculations
- Ability to implement and manage data validation, reconciliation, and variance analysis processes
- Track record of building intuitive, secure, and role-based dashboards
- Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement, requirements gathering, and ongoing support
- Experience in documenting BI processes, data sources, and governance standards
- Commitment to data quality, security, and continuous improvement
Responsibilities
- Lead on-site discovery workshops to accurately capture reporting requirements, translating them into technical specifications and success criteria
- Design and build robust dashboards, reports, and live data extracts over Sage X3 and other databases, modeling best practices and governance using Sage Data & Analytics (ZapBI) and Power BI
- Write performant Structured Query Language (SQL) scripts, including complex joins, window functions, and incremental loads
- Apply advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Power Query, complex formulas, pivot tables, VBA/macros) to support ad hoc reporting and Finances live data needs
- Implement data validation, reconciliation, and variance analysis to build trust in reported figures
- Create and maintain a calculation/measure dictionary with business definitions, DAX expressions, filters, and caveats
- Optimize dataset performance (column cardinality, aggregations, incremental refresh, composite models)
- Build intuitive, role-based dashboards with strong UX; apply row and object-level security as needed
- Collaborate with Finance, Operations, and Sales on data readiness (staging, transformations, ETL)
- Provide ongoing support: answer stakeholder questions about metrics, explain calculations and data lineage, and triage issues
- Document data sources, refresh schedules, dependencies, and change history; contribute to BI standards and governance
- Ensure data quality, Row-Level Security (RLS), performance, documentation, and stakeholder communication
Description
We are a highly successful and well-established manufacturing organization located in Maldon, Essex. This new BI Report Developer position is part of our technology transformation programme, where youll play a crucial role in evolving our data analysis and reporting capabilities. We offer a 12-month day rate contract, initially requiring 2 - 3 days on-site for discovery and stakeholder relationship building, transitioning to a hybrid model for remote development, delivery, and support. This position is outside IR35.
