Requirements
Must:
- Strong, hands-on experience designing and operating Azure platforms
- Proven Terraform experience (modules, patterns, safe change)
- Strong Azure DevOps CI/CD engineering experience
- Experience implementing governance, security guardrails and delivery controls
- Comfortable operating without an existing DevOps team
- Desirable: Azure Policy at scale
- Desirable: Observability, SRE or platform engineering practices
- Desirable: Container / AKS experience
- Desirable: Cost governance and showback/chargeback experience
Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of Azure subscriptions, landing zones, and platform hygiene
- Define and enforce governance standards (Azure Policy, RBAC, naming, tagging)
- Improve platform resilience, cost governance, and disaster recovery
- Establish Terraform as the single source of truth for infrastructure
- Design reusable modules and environment patterns
- Reduce configuration drift across dev/test/production
- Own CI/CD standards using Azure DevOps
- Define pipeline templates, PR/branch policies, approvals, and gated releases
- Create golden path delivery patterns for teams to deploy without bespoke pipelines
- Define monitoring, logging, alerting, and dashboards
- Improve incident response, runbooks, and recovery processes
- Shape DR and operational processes
- Coach development teams in DevOps best practices
- Standardise ways of working across squads
- Build internal capability and reduce reliance on individuals
Description
We are a technology-focused client located in East Anglia, actively seeking a hands-on Lead DevOps Engineer with a salary range of £65,000 - £75,000. This is a hybrid role, requiring 3 days on-site (1 day in Ipswich), where you will take ownership of our established Azure platform and guide its governance and stability. This is a unique opportunity to be the first permanent DevOps hire in our organization, allowing you to shape and mature our DevOps environment during an exciting transformation phase within IT.
