Must:
We are looking for a strong embedded software engineer who has recently transitioned into AI and machine learning for vision systems. You should have strong embedded software development experience in C/C++, Linux, and real-time systems. A proven background in embedded machine vision or image pipelines is essential, along with hands-on experience with IR, CMOS, or similar camera/imaging systems. You should possess a practical understanding of embedded AI/ML techniques such as CNNs, segmentation, and shape tracking, and be comfortable working in memory- and timing-constrained environments. A degree or MSc in Computer Vision, Embedded Systems, or a related field is preferred, as well as experience developing software for safety-critical systems and familiarity with IEC 61508 or similar certification standards.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will develop and optimize real-time embedded vision algorithms in C/C++. You will work with near-IR camera sensors to classify visual and behavioral characteristics, integrating fixed AI/ML models (e.g., CNNs) into embedded systems. It will be your responsibility to ensure deterministic, certifiable software execution under memory and timing constraints and to evaluate model performance under varied environmental conditions (lighting, motion, etc.). Collaboration will be key, as you will work closely with software, hardware, and certification engineers.

This is a rare opportunity to join our Aberdeen-based technology company, which is at the forefront of developing cutting-edge embedded vision and AI technology. We combine advanced near-infrared (IR) camera sensors with deterministic AI models to identify anomalies, hazards, and safety risks in real-time. You will enjoy a balanced work environment, spending two days per week at our Aberdeen site, working closely with the engineering team, and three days per week working remotely. This position is ideal for an engineer passionate about embedded AI and real-time vision, contributing directly to driver and passenger safety while joining a small, expert team with the flexibility of hybrid working.
