We are looking for a skilled Level 2-3 Platform Engineer who is SC cleared and able to work on-site at MOD Corsham. You should have experience with Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, Microsoft Server OS (ideally 2012R2, 2019) and Windows 10, VMware vCenter and virtualised environments, along with knowledge of various computer hardware platforms. Additionally, you must be physically able to lift and install heavy equipment.
Desirable skills include administration of Microsoft Exchange Server 2016, Skype Server 2016, SharePoint Server, SQL Server 2016, Trend DSM, VEEAM, SolarWinds, Amulet Hotkey Zero Clients, and Meinburg NTP, as well as VMware Horizon and AppVolumes, and Microsoft Endpoint Connection Manager. Familiarity with ADFS, Windows PKI (especially within Defence or DPKI), VMware NSX and microsegmentation, cryptographic material handling and accounting, Linux systems, and Cisco networking products is also preferred. A willingness to work outside normal hours, including on-call duties (averaging one week in six), is required.
Responsibilities
In this role, I will expect you to install and configure virtual machines, networks, and software according to system administration guides and work instructions. You will apply updates and patches using MECM and WSUS, as well as install and configure operating systems, antivirus software, and other applications.
You will set up and maintain IT hardware, which may involve lifting and installing heavy equipment. I need you to proactively monitor complex environments, recording issues, faults, and resolutions. You will diagnose and resolve network, hardware, and software issues and conduct root-cause analysis to propose resolutions for technical issues across Windows/Linux servers, virtualisation, and networking.
Additionally, you will maintain inventories of hardware and software and manage logistics for replacements, as well as manage server backups to ensure data integrity and maintain network connectivity while accurately documenting changes.
Description
This role is crucial for the operations of our Core Engineering, Test, and Live Service Management teams. Your work will directly support the installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware and software systems in test and reference environments that underpin deployed live IT systems. The position is located in Corsham, with occasional visits to Portsmouth, and is offered on a contract basis with a salary of up to £600 per day via an approved umbrella company.
