We expect candidates to possess strong cloud skills with proficiency in AWS and experience across a broad range of cloud services. You should demonstrate competence in Test-Driven Development (TDD) for software and Infrastructure as Code (IaC), including unit, integration, and functional testing. Automation experience with scripting skills and tools like Ansible is essential, as well as knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and best practices. An understanding of cloud security best practices, including competency with Identity and Access Management (IAM), is critical. We value strong troubleshooting and debugging skills, ideally with incident response experience, as well as a background in Agile environments. Attention to detail in capturing test evidence or specifying tests is crucial, along with the ability to write technical documentation. A willingness to mentor junior team members is also important.
Responsibilities
As the Cloud Test Engineer, I will expect you to test complex backup and restoration processes using AWS Backup, including scenarios where recovery involves automated redeployment and data restoration. You will conduct disaster recovery testing to demonstrate the full system recovery from archives. Your role will involve performance testing, identifying bottlenecks, optimizing resource usage, and improving scalability in multi-user concurrent scenarios. You will automate processes where practical via CI/CD pipelines using existing frameworks and capture evidence of data archiving implementation and adherence to requirements. Additionally, you will ensure that network and infrastructure dependencies are in place for pipeline deployments, develop build verification/smoke test scripts to validate builds and deployments, and document test scripts in GitLab while capturing evidence of successful execution. Promoting best practices, mentoring colleagues, and contributing to continuous improvement will be part of your role. Full engagement in Agile development and upskilling in SAFe practices (with training provided if needed) will also be expected. Finally, supporting security, safety, and compliance activities throughout the lifecycle is a fundamental responsibility.
Description
This role is remote but may require occasional visits to our Malvern office. The position is set for a duration until 31/03/2026, with a likely extension, and we offer market rate compensation for the right candidate. Desirable skills include an understanding of containerization and orchestration, particularly with Docker and Kubernetes. Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, or similar credentials will be viewed favorably. Additionally, strong Microsoft skills regarding deploying and managing Windows Server and Active Directory are beneficial.
