Requirements
Must:
We are looking for a candidate with a PhD in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or another numerate discipline, along with at least 4 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, a BSc/MSc in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or another numerate discipline with 6-8 years of relevant experience will be considered.
While not an exhaustive list, we would like you to have experience in some of the following areas:
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Fortran, or similar high-level languages.
- Knowledge of computer architectures, specifically parallel architectures (including accelerators like GPUs) and their applications in running large scientific calculations.
- Familiarity with parallel programming concepts, including threading and MPI-style parallelism.
- An understanding of software development life cycles.
- An interest in processing technologies—software, hardware, and algorithms, along with their applications.
- Experience using debuggers and performance analysis tools is advantageous.
- Familiarity with open-source software and experience working in Unix/Linux environments.
- Ability to capture software requirements and produce fitting implementations.
- Software testing experience and familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., bash, Python).
- Strong communication skills for writing clear technical documentation and presenting material effectively.
- Capability to manage workloads and remain calm in changing priority environments while demonstrating initiative, enthusiasm, and a flexible approach in meeting tight deadlines.
Responsibilities
In this role, I will expect you to:
- Provide support in porting specific codes to new platforms.
- Design, code, test, install, and maintain software modules.
- Produce suitable online documentation.
- Interact with vendors, universities, and US laboratories on cutting-edge research.
- Undertake research-level investigations of advanced novel techniques for solving multi-physics problems.
- Develop relevant benchmarks for assessing current and future systems.
- Maintain an awareness of current and future developments in the HPC field.
