Yolk Recruitment
South Molton Passage, South East London
£104,000 - 130,000
Requirements
Must:
We are looking for an experienced ADCS engineer who possesses the following qualifications:
- Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. A master's or higher degree is a plus.
- Relevant Experience: 2-5 years of experience in spacecraft ADCS development, including real-world testing, simulation, and on-orbit support.
- Technical Knowledge: A strong understanding of ADCS components such as reaction wheels, star trackers, magnetometers, IMUs, sun sensors, and magnetorquers. Prior work with spacecraft GNC systems is highly beneficial.
- Software Skills: Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems, as well as experience with Python and MATLAB for simulation and data analysis. Familiarity with Git or similar version control systems is also required.
- Systems Thinking: A deep knowledge of closed-loop control systems, orbital mechanics, and dynamics, along with comfort in conducting trade-off studies to optimize system design.
- Testing Proficiency: Experience in designing and executing HIL (hardware-in-the-loop) tests and simulation-based validation, with strong troubleshooting skills to resolve integration challenges.
Responsibilities
In this hands-on role, you will be part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, responsible for:
- Architecting and Building ADCS Systems: Leading the design and integration of spacecraft attitude control solutions, incorporating advanced control algorithms, sensors, and actuators tailored to mission needs.
- Developing Control Algorithms: Implementing sophisticated algorithms to manage various pointing modes and orientation requirements under dynamic space conditions.
- Simulating and Analyzing: Building and operating simulation environments to validate system behavior, modeling sensors and actuators to forecast performance and refine control strategies.
- Selecting and Integrating Hardware: Defining specifications and evaluating vendors for ADCS components while ensuring seamless subsystem integration across spacecraft hardware and software stacks.
- Testing and Validating: Planning and executing extensive ground testing and HIL simulations, supporting flight validation, commissioning, and anomaly resolution in orbit.
- Supporting Flight Operations: Engaging with flight teams to perform on-orbit calibrations, maneuver planning, and real-time issue response throughout the satellite's mission.
- Documenting and Communicating: Generating clear, comprehensive technical documentation for internal use and customer deliverables, along with presenting findings and design updates across project stakeholders.
Description
This is a unique opportunity for you to apply your ADCS expertise to a truly novel mission. You will be working at the cutting edge of orbital technology in a fast-paced, hardware-focused space startup environment. The role requires being onsite in Berkshire, offering a competitive pay rate of £400-£500 per day outside of IR35, with the potential for extended hours. The contract duration can be up to 9 months.
