Requirements
Must:
- Strong WordPress expertise (custom themes, PHP, MySQL)
- Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3/SCSS, JavaScript/jQuery
- Experience managing hosting environments, SSL/TLS, backups, and monitoring
- Practical knowledge of Cloudflare & DNS management
- Understanding of WordPress security hardening & performance optimisation (e.g., caching, Core Web Vitals)
- Experience troubleshooting integrations, forms, and APIs (Salesforce preferred)
- Ability to manage a high-volume BAU support queue with minimal supervision
- Strong documentation, problem-solving, and stakeholder communication skills
Responsibilities
- Manage and resolve BAU tickets (layouts, minor theme changes, bug fixes)
- Provide second-line support for escalations (plugin conflicts, redirects, tracking, forms)
- Maintain uptime and communicate resolutions with stakeholders
- Administer Cloudflare DNS and maintain audit documentation
- Standardise hosting, SSL/TLS, and backup processes
- Lead WordPress core, theme, and plugin maintenance with testing
- Maintain security hygiene (access reviews, vulnerabilities, plugin rationalisation)
- Deliver incremental website improvements and template updates
- Support website projects and troubleshoot implementation issues
- Ensure consistency across Wilderness brand sites
- Support Salesforce web-to-lead forms and CRM data flows
- Resolve basic API and integration issues
- Escalate complex engineering challenges when required
- Maintain site registers and technical runbooks
- Contribute to workflow and deployment process improvements
Description
We are Wilderness Group, seeking a Web Platform & BAU Engineer to own the stability, performance, and day-to-day operation of our web platforms. This hybrid position is based in locations such as Aviemore or Edinburgh (Scotland), Sligo (Ireland), or Kirkby Lonsdale (England). We offer a 35-hour work week, 31 days holiday plus up to 12 rostered days off, volunteer leave, flexible working options, and many other benefits including a pension and health plan.
