Requirements
Must:
- Degree-level education or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong technical expertise in Moodle (including plugin development and integrations) and Echo360, with experience of related digital learning tools.
- Solid knowledge of Linux command-line tools and system administration.
- Experience using modern development practices, including Agile, version control, CI/CD, test-driven development, and change control.
- Proven experience with PHP, JavaScript, CSS, NodeJS, and jQuery (Python desirable).
- Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs.
- PRINCE2 Foundation, ITIL4 Foundation, or equivalent qualifications (desirable).
- Experience working within a Higher Education environment (desirable).
- Working knowledge of Azure or other cloud platforms (desirable).
- Active involvement in the Moodle or wider e-learning community (desirable).
Responsibilities
- Respond to escalated ServiceNow calls and JIRA bugs with professionalism and timeliness.
- Provide expert advice and operational support to users of the Universitys core VLE service (Moodle), Echo360 lecture capture system, and complementary digital learning technologies.
- Play a hands-on role in a small, specialist team to design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality web applications and backend/frontend services.
- Work collaboratively to design, develop, and test solutions.
- Write documentation of new processes and products to facilitate knowledge sharing.
- Define and execute practices such as continuous integration and test-driven development.
- Communicate positively with users/customers, avoiding technical jargon.
- Solve technically complex challenges and implement clean fixes.
- Ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability for data while following information security and data management policies.
- Factor appropriate levels of business continuity into solutions and maintain them during the solutions lifecycle.
- Monitor systems and react to alerts and abnormal behavior.
- Liaise and escalate issues with internal developers and 3rd party vendors.
- Identify recurring issues and deliver root-cause improvements.
- Provide technical leadership on medium and large projects and support change management.
Description
We are looking for a Senior Analyst/Developer to join our team on a 6-month fixed-term contract, offering a salary between £47,389 and £56,535 per annum, depending on experience. The role will provide technical leadership in enhancing and supporting our core Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and various digital learning solutions.
