Requirements
Must:
- Strong background in hands-on hardware testing and validation
- Proven experience designing Automated Test Equipment (ATE) systems from the ground up
- Experience testing complex high-speed digital electronic systems
- Knowledge of interfaces such as PCIe, USB, Ethernet, memory, DisplayPort, and serial communications
- Understanding of PCB-level debugging, signal integrity, and hardware validation
- Understanding of power supplies, voltage configuration, and current requirements
- Comfortable using Linux commands for hardware testing
- Strong documentation skills and a practical, problem-solving mindset
- Nice to have: Python or similar scripting for test automation
- Nice to have: JIRA experience
- Eligibility to pass BPSS screening and Security Check (SC) clearance
Responsibilities
- Design and develop Automated Test Equipment (ATE) systems from scratch
- Build bespoke test rigs, fixtures, wiring looms, harnesses, and hardware interfaces
- Create test plans, validation procedures, and technical documentation
- Perform hands-on manual testing before implementing automated or semi-automated solutions
- Validate interfaces including PCIe, USB, Ethernet, memory, GPIO, DisplayPort, RS232, RS485, LINbus, and Modbus
- Use Linux commands for memory and system-level hardware testing
- Support prototype bring-up, verification, and production test readiness
- Work with software, hardware, and manufacturing teams to ensure full test coverage
Description
We are looking for a Contract Electronic Test Engineer – High-Speed Digital located in Colchester, Essex, offering a competitive rate of £50–60 per hour for an initial 6-month contract. In this role, you will design and build complete automated test systems for complex high-speed digital electronic products.
