Must:
We require candidates to have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. You should possess at least 7 years of hands-on experience in backend development, specifically in building and maintaining high-availability, high-throughput systems in production.
Technical skills we seek include expert-level proficiency in Go (Golang), with a minimum of 5 years of production experience, particularly focusing on concurrency patterns and performance tuning. Strong experience in designing, building, and scaling high-availability RESTful APIs for mobile or web clients is essential. You should also be well-versed in distributed systems, microservices architecture, and event-driven patterns. Demonstrated experience with real-time applications and data streaming technologies, such as WebSockets, gRPC, or Kafka, is required. Additionally, experience with integrating third-party AI/ML APIs and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) for deploying services on major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) is necessary.
Responsibilities
As the Senior Backend Engineer for Application & AI Orchestration, you will own the end-to-end backend architecture for our flagship conversational AI product, the Personal Welcome Manager. Your primary responsibility will be to design, build, and optimize the core AI orchestration pipeline while serving as the technical lead for our Buy, Don't Build AI strategy. This will involve integrating, managing, and evaluating third-party AI services from providers such as Vapi, Deepgram, and Cartesia.
You will implement the core application logic for all Welcome Manager features, design and scale RESTful APIs that serve our mobile clients, and architect real-time data flows for live transcription features. Collaboration is key; you will work with Platform & Security engineers to maintain a Zero Trust security architecture, implement monitoring for the AI pipeline, partner with Senior Android Engineers to define API contracts, and adjust features based on product requirements.

As a Phase 2 company, we are focused on building the foundational engineering team to define our culture and success. Our flagship product, the Personal Welcome Manager, showcases AI innovation and aims for a seamless voice-to-voice experience with minimal latency. This position offers a permanent contract with a hybrid work setup, requiring just two days a week in our central London office, while the rest of the week can be worked from home. The salary is competitive, with a range between £110k and £140k, depending on experience.
