Requirements
Must:
We are looking for a developer or systems engineer with a strong interest in software development and supporting research computing. You should have strong Linux experience, confidence working in Windows, and be familiar with a range of environments. Experience with at least one programming or scripting language (e.g., Python, Bash, C++) is essential, as is familiarity with tools for automation or deployment (e.g., Ansible, Docker). You should have an interest in supporting research or scientific computing and possess a methodical and collaborative approach to work. We understand that you may not tick every box; we value enthusiasm and a desire to grow.
Responsibilities
As a Research Systems Developer, you will support and develop systems, tools, and infrastructure that underpin computational research in our Department of Computer Science. Your role will be technically varied and hands-on, involving not just maintenance but also building, adapting, and improving systems to meet the evolving needs of our researchers. Your typical tasks will include writing and maintaining software to automate system configuration and research workflows, supporting high-performance and GPU-enabled computing environments, integrating a variety of open-source tools, developing bespoke tools and scripts to support research, and advising researchers on technical approaches, system use, and best practices.
