Requirements
Must:
- Proven experience as a Senior Network Engineer
- Strong capability across Routing & Switching, Network Security, Monitoring & Management, Network Virtualisation, Cloud Networking, and Network Automation
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to untangle complex issues
- Certifications such as CCNA or CCNP (or equivalent) are a bonus
- Strong communicator and collaborator
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail
- Comfortable adapting to evolving technologies and industry trends
- Must hold or be eligible to obtain a high level of National Security Clearance
Responsibilities
- Own and optimise complex network environments, getting hands-on across a wide range of technologies and responsibilities
- Configure and manage routers, switches, and routing protocols
- Design VLANs, implement network segmentation, and create virtualised network environments
- Deliver cloud networking solutions and implement network automation
- Produce detailed network designs, configurations, and performance reports
- Monitor and improve network performance using appropriate tools and processes
- Troubleshoot implementation issues and support end users in test environments
- Deploy infrastructure through later delivery phases
- Contribute to Program Increment (PI) planning and cross-functional collaboration
- Guide and enable others to deliver results, with the opportunity to supervise or mentor
Description
At Thorn SDS, we are a specialist Managed Service Provider based in Alton, Hampshire, dedicated to empowering technology professionals and organisations across the Space, Defence, and Security sectors. We are currently expanding our team and are seeking a Senior Network Engineer who is ready to make an impact. This is a full-time, on-site role (5 days per week) at a secure location in Hereford. You will be operating at SFIA Level 5, shaping and supporting mission-critical network infrastructure in highly specialised environments. Please note that some UK travel with overnight stays may be required.
