Requirements
Must:
- Broad data management technical knowledge across the full data cycle.
- Proven experience working with AWS data technologies (S3, Redshift, Glue, Lambda, Lake Formation, Cloud Formation), GitHub, and CI/CD.
- Coding experience in Apache Spark, Iceberg, or Python (Pandas).
- Experience in change and release management.
- Database warehousing design and data modeling expertise.
- Experience managing data migration projects.
- Knowledge of cloud data platform development and deployment.
- Experience in performance tuning in various database settings.
- Familiarity with infrastructure as code practices.
- Proven ability to organize and produce work within deadlines.
- Strong project and people management skills.
- Excellent data development, manipulation, and analysis skills using a variety of tools including SQL, Python, AWS services, and the MSBI stack.
- Ability to prioritize and adapt to changing priorities at short notice.
- Strong commercial acumen and practical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and provide understandable data to diverse audiences.
- Well-developed analytical skills, with the ability to create models and analyze data for complex problem-solving.
- Understanding of business processes and the influence of technology on them.

Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable, efficient, and secure data architectures ensuring optimal data flow across systems to achieve high service levels of support, maintenance, and development.
- Own development and change projects, ensuring requirements are met cost-effectively while minimizing risks.
- Manage cloud data platform development, data modeling, shaping, and technical planning.
- Mentor and support the growth and development of data engineers.
- Facilitate project management tasks, including stakeholder management and resource estimation against demand.
- Maintain compliance and service level monitoring, reporting on performance, and managing vendor relationships.
- Enforce best practices around data security, privacy, and compliance, working closely with the Business Intelligence lead.
- Maintain strong stakeholder relationships to clarify and influence data requirements.
- Collaborate with external organizations and third-party suppliers for continuous system support and development.
- Develop unit tested code, support test cycles, and contribute to application transition and ongoing support.
- Influence the evolution of business and system requirements and contribute to technical solution design using Agile methods like SCRUM and Kanban.
- Ensure that data systems comply with necessary governance and control requirements, resulting in high-quality software delivery with zero critical and high defects upon release.
Description
This role is part of a well-established data team offering an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to refine their modern data management skills in a supportive environment. The role requires attendance at our Leeds-based office as needed, with a minimum requirement of two days a week, while also allowing for effective collaboration as part of a remote team. We are seeking a motivated data engineer eager for a new opportunity to contribute their technical expertise to the growth of our newly formed data team. Key internal relationships will include wider technical teams (such as applications, testing, and dev ops), project managers, business subject matter experts, data teams, and communities, as well as external relationships with software/service suppliers and consultants. Applicants should possess several years of practical experience in a similar environment, with a balanced mix of technical skills and personal attributes to ensure immediate effectiveness. Desired qualifications include proven experience in developing and maintaining tactical and enterprise data management solutions, delivering cloud-based data solutions, and managing technical teams to achieve significant business outcomes. Experience with the energy markets and the energy supply industry sector is a plus.
