Must:
We are looking for a Lead Software Developer who possesses strong leadership and team-building skills, enabling you to effectively delegate responsibilities. You should have practical experience in system design, development, testing, and operational stability, with a deep understanding of software design and code quality.
A significant knowledge of Python and its ecosystem, including familiarity with modern front-end technologies and JavaScript frameworks such as React, is necessary. You must have experience writing and consuming RESTful APIs in Python and working with AWS services like Lambda, SQS, API Gateways, and S3. Additionally, we're seeking candidates with extensive experience in agile environments, particularly with Scrum, and familiarity with extreme programming practices like continuous integration and test-driven development.
Strong time-management and organizational skills are essential, along with excellent communication, negotiating, and influencing abilities.
Responsibilities
As the Lead Software Developer, you will design, implement, and maintain publishing software and customer-facing digital products. You will play a vital role in leading the development and maintenance of software aligned with our organizational objectives for your team. Promoting high-quality code using modern agile engineering practices such as TDD, CI/CD, pair programming, and continuous monitoring will be part of your responsibilities.
You will work closely with QA and Product teams, encouraging knowledge sharing within the organization, and identifying opportunities for process improvements. Innovation is key, so we expect you to evaluate and adopt emerging technologies and collaborate with the Head of Engineering on recruitment and onboarding of new team members. Your role will also involve promoting consistent ways of working across engineering and addressing low-performing team members when necessary.
Description

The basic salary for this position is £76,000, with excellent benefits included. This is a hybrid role, requiring you to be in our London office between 4 to 8 days per month, with the remaining time working remotely.
