Requirements
Must:
We are seeking candidates with strong recent experience in Java 21 or later. A solid understanding of Test Driven Development (TDD), Behavior Driven Development (BDD), and Agile delivery methodologies is essential. You should have experience with microservices architecture and responsive web design. A proven track record in building APIs and automated test frameworks for continuous deployment is required. Familiarity with Unix-like operating systems (Linux/Mac OS X) and comfort with collaborative development practices, such as pair programming, is also expected.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will lead or guide a team of Java developers on large-scale digital services. Your responsibilities include designing, building, and enhancing server-side applications and APIs for both internal and external use. You will build and maintain automated test suites to support continuous deployment efforts, contribute to scaling and improving high-traffic web platforms, and provide 2nd-line support for applications and platforms, including occasional out-of-hours support. Additionally, you will be expected to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
Description
We are looking for a Lead Java Developer to join a major national digital transformation programme. In this position, you will help build and improve high-traffic citizen-facing services used by millions across the UK. This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who thrives in collaborative, Agile environments and desires their work to have a tangible impact on society. The contract is for 12 months, located in Leeds with a requirement of being onsite three days per week. Candidates must be eligible for SC clearance.
