Requirements
Must:
- Demonstrable experience as a Principal Engineer on large-scale modernisation or platform programmes.
- Strong background in cloud-native engineering on AWS, including Kubernetes-based platforms.
- Deep hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, and Node.js, building scalable and resilient backend services.
- Experience modernising or integrating with mainframe or legacy enterprise systems in high-volume environments.
- Proven ability to enforce engineering standards and operate effectively within high-governance, regulated, or public sector contexts.
- Strong understanding of Agile delivery, DevOps practices, CI/CD, and engineering lifecycle management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce and assure high-quality technical documentation.
Responsibilities
- Provide senior technical leadership for a complex mainframe modernisation programme.
- Shape and assure solution design while enforcing engineering standards.
- Guide delivery teams operating in a high-governance public sector environment.
- Ensure modern cloud-native platforms are delivered securely and reliably.
- Extend oversight to multiteam and multivendor settings as the programme scales.
Description
We are looking for a Principal Engineer to provide technical leadership in our complex mainframe modernisation programme. This role is remote with occasional travel to London, Manchester, or Newcastle. We offer an opportunity to work on a high-throughput and scalable project, whilst ensuring compliance with government architectural and engineering standards.
