Requirements
Must:
• 5+ years building customer-facing web applications end-to-end (frontend + backend).
• Strong React / Next.js skills and ability to build production-quality UI (not just prototypes).
• Strong backend fundamentals (Node.js / TypeScript preferred) and solid database design skills (Postgres).
• Experience building transactional flows involving payments, edge cases, failure states, and user trust.
• Self-directed, ownership mindset, comfortable working closely with founders in an early-stage environment.
Nice to have:
Experience with Stripe (refunds, disputes, chargebacks), AWS or modern deployment patterns, marketplaces or two-sided platforms, or high-trust/time-sensitive industries such as fintech, travel, ticketing or booking systems.Responsibilities
You will be the first engineering hire, working directly with the founders to build the first production-ready version of SwapTix.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Owning the MVP build end-to-end (frontend, backend, database and deployment).
• Building transactional marketplace flows including listing, buying, payments, cancellations, refunds and failure states.
• Implementing authentication, permissions and basic admin tooling.
• Designing clean APIs, data models and scalable architecture foundations.
• Setting up engineering discipline: repository structure, CI/CD, environments, logging and monitoring.
• Working in short delivery cycles with weekly milestones and demos.
• Writing maintainable, well-tested code with long-term scalability in mind.
• Contributing to product decisions, especially around clarity, transparency and user trust.
This is a high-ownership role with real influence over architecture and technical standards.

SwapTix is a London-based startup building a fair, transparent and trustworthy secondary ticket marketplace. The current resale market is often confusing, opaque and frustrating for customers. Our goal is to build a cleaner, safer alternative where users clearly understand what they are buying and what happens if plans change. We are currently pre-launch and part of CityVentures incubator, based at Venture Space. Our legal, financial and operational foundations are already established.
