Requirements
Must:
- 5+ years experience delivering production Java applications
- Strong JavaFX and/or Swing experience
- Experience developing complex, data-driven interfaces
- Structured development discipline (testing, reviews, version control)
- Linux development exposure
- Experience mentoring or leading developers
- Strong academic background or equivalent technical depth
- Advantageous: experience with real-time systems, Mathematics degree, networking, C/C++, scientific computing exposure
Responsibilities
- Designing and developing Java-based user interfaces
- Working with JavaFX and/or Swing in production systems
- Building intuitive data visualisation for technical users
- Contributing to wider software and system architecture decisions
- Leading code reviews and maintaining development standards
- Mentoring and guiding junior engineers
- Translating operational requirements into practical UI solutions
- Supporting integration and validation activity
- Evaluating emerging technologies pragmatically
Description
We are hiring a senior Java engineer to take ownership of user interface development within a highly technical engineering environment in the Defence sector. This position requires you to have British Citizenship for SC Clearance eligibility, although you do not need to hold SC clearance to be considered. Our team focuses on developing interfaces that support operators working with complex, data-heavy systems, where clarity, performance, and reliability are paramount. The role is full-time and requires 5 days onsite.
