Must:
We are looking for a candidate who has proven experience as a Systems Engineer or Infrastructure Engineer in a multi-project environment. You should have a strong background in infrastructure design, build, and deployment across various environments, as well as experience in building multiple environments for each project. We expect you to possess expert-level knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365. Additionally, solid hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), particularly in compute, networking, and identity management, is essential. You should confidently manage both Windows and Linux operating systems and be skilled in VMware or Hyper-V virtualization. A comprehensive understanding of networking fundamentals, including VLANs, routing, switching, firewalls, and VPNs, is crucial. Awareness of security best practices, monitoring, and compliance is also important. Finally, we value strong documentation skills and a proactive, solution-driven mindset.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for designing and delivering infrastructure builds across multiple environments—on-prem, cloud, and hybrid. Your duties will include building and managing Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) and Active Directory, including Group Policy Objects (GPO), DNS, DHCP, and file systems. You will also deploy and maintain Google Cloud Platform (GCP) infrastructure, covering compute, networking, IAM, and storage. Additionally, managing and supporting Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, Teams, Intune, SharePoint, and Azure AD will fall under your purview. You will install, configure, and maintain VMware vSphere/ESXi and Hyper-V virtual environments, design and build secure network infrastructures consisting of switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs, and Wi-Fi. Implementing and managing security controls, patching, and endpoint protection along with overseeing backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans will be essential tasks. Finally, you will collaborate with project managers, developers, and clients to deliver tailored infrastructure solutions.
Description
This position is based on-site and offers a salary range of £40,000 to £50,000, along with benefits. We are seeking a Systems Engineer who thrives on designing and delivering multiple infrastructure builds, as you will be part of a highly technical team focused on building and deploying network and infrastructure solutions for scientific projects.
