Must:
We are looking for someone with demonstrated experience executing complex SQL Server upgrades or migrations within enterprise environments, as this role will involve significant upcoming projects. You should have a proven ability to configure and support SQL Server AlwaysOn availability groups for high-availability solutions across distributed systems. Expertise in performance tuning techniques for SQL Server environments, including index optimization, query analysis, and resource management, is essential. A comprehensive understanding of patching methodologies and maintenance routines necessary for securely managing extensive SQL Server estates is required. Practical knowledge of PowerShell scripting to support automation initiatives within the team's workflow is highly desirable. You must also possess in-depth familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server architecture and the related Windows Server stack components. Experience in working within strict change control frameworks typical of process-driven organizations would be advantageous. An ITIL Foundation certification or equivalent service management knowledge will demonstrate your commitment to structured IT operations. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are essential for effective collaboration with colleagues across regions.

Responsibilities

As a SQL Database Administrator, you will manage and execute multiple SQL Server upgrades as part of significant data center migration projects. You will oversee the development of SQL Server instances across our global estate, ensuring compliance with best practices and security policies at all times. Monitoring the health and performance of the SQL Server environment will be your responsibility to minimize downtime and ensure secure, reliable services for end users worldwide. Additionally, you will develop, maintain, and enhance database support utilities, scripts, and tools to streamline operational processes and improve system efficiency. You will plan for future storage capacity requirements by analyzing current usage trends and forecasting organizational needs in collaboration with other technical teams. It will be crucial to establish, document, and uphold best practices and procedures throughout the SQL Server estate to ensure consistency and operational excellence. You will provide responsive operational support for critical incidents involving SQL Servers, including code releases and urgent troubleshooting scenarios. Configuring and maintaining essential SQL Server processes, such as monitoring solutions, backup strategies, disaster recovery plans, and performance optimization routines, will also be part of your responsibilities. Lastly, you will assist application developers with query tuning, schema refinement, and other database-related challenges to promote efficient software delivery, often working independently outside standard business hours when required.
