We are looking for a highly experienced leader in technology functions, with proven experience leading architecture and design assurance teams in complex, regulated environments. You should have strong people leadership and development skills, with the ability to inspire, coach, and grow high-performing teams, building technology skills and confidence at all levels. A track record of leading complex change is essential, as well as strategic thinking and decision-making abilities that balance long-term vision with short-term priorities. A strong understanding of how architecture enables business outcomes in a supplier-driven ecosystem is crucial. You must be a confident communicator, able to engage, influence, and build trust with senior stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and industry representatives. Additionally, experience in establishing governance and leading architecture design is necessary. You should possess the ability to hold third-party suppliers accountable for delivery and have excellent communication skills to convey complex technical information to non-technical audiences.
Responsibilities
As the Head of Technology Services Architecture, your key responsibilities will include:
- Setting and communicating the strategic architectural vision, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and regulatory obligations.
- Leading, coaching, and developing a high-performing team of Domain and Solution Architects.
- Owning architectural deliverables to ensure they enable the delivery of secure, integrated, and value-driven solutions.
- Driving a culture of ownership and accountability within the architecture team.
- Providing technology leadership for high-profile, complex transformation programs, ensuring architecture is a trusted enabler of change.
- Acting as a senior voice for our technology function in executive, regulatory, and industry forums, building trusted relationships and influencing direction.
- Promoting cross-enterprise collaboration to ensure technology system design decisions consider all impacts.
- Leading system design governance and ensuring consistent application of standards and best practices across all domains.
- Ensuring suppliers are held accountable for delivering architectural roadmaps and technical quality.
- Leading funding and investment planning efforts by shaping business cases and long-term roadmaps.
Description
In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for shaping and governing the architectural, product, and service vision that underpins the UK's smart metering ecosystem. You will lead a team of expert architects and domain experts, drive accountability and capability development, and influence the technical strategy and direction of our organization. Your leadership will ensure that suppliers meet roadmaps aligned with our long-term service and operational needs, ultimately shaping the future of smart metering technology. A desirable background includes experience working with government or regulatory bodies, knowledge of the Smart Energy Code, involvement in national infrastructure programs, and recognition within industry forums. Certification in frameworks such as TOGAF or Bizzdesign is also preferred.
