Requirements
Must:
We seek candidates with strong software engineering experience, particularly in C# as a primary development language, who can produce clean, scalable, production-ready code. You should also have:
- Demonstrable experience in designing and building ETL/ELT data pipelines and integrating data from various upstream sources.
- Solid cloud experience (preferably Azure, but AWS or GCP is also acceptable), encompassing the deployment, management, and support of cloud-hosted data services and applications.
- Experience in developing and maintaining APIs and data services, including implementing automated testing (unit and integration tests).
- Strong knowledge of containerization and deployment approaches (preferably cloud container services, Docker, or Kubernetes) and CI/CD practices.
- Experience working with public-facing data platforms or open data services, including data modeling, metadata, or data standards.
- The ability to pass security clearance, supported by the right to work in the UK.
Responsibilities
As our Senior Data Engineer, I will rely on you to:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable, high-quality data pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows that support analytics, reporting, and product development.
- Assess, recommend, and implement modern data technologies and tools to meet organizational requirements.
- Develop and optimize data models, warehouses, and storage layers to ensure performance, reliability, and user-friendliness.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to embed data engineering best practices throughout the product and development lifecycle.
- Work alongside internal customers to understand their data needs, provide technical guidance, and promote the confident and effective use of data systems.

Within our organization, the Data & Search Team enables data-driven services that empower search, insights, information discovery, and public data accessibility across Parliament. The Open Data team, a part of Data & Search, is focused on defining and delivering Parliament's open data strategy while managing open data products and services. We are currently initiating the development of a new Open Data Platform for parliamentary procedure data that will replace existing platforms and their associated data integration and publishing services. The Data Engineer will be integral to this initiative, focusing on developing the ETL data pipeline framework that integrates upstream master data from parliamentary business systems.
