Requirements
Must:
- I possess extensive knowledge of assistive technologies and accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2, EN 301 549).
- I have an in-depth understanding of common operating systems and digital platforms and how assistive technologies integrate with them.
- I am able to assess the accessibility of tools and systems effectively.
- I have a strong interest in emerging assistive technology solutions and understand their potential in an organizational setting.
- I can understand and assess individual accessibility requirements, selecting appropriate technology to provide inclusive experiences and remove barriers.
- I am skilled in diagnosing issues with assistive technology tools and proposing effective solutions.
- I can engage with a broad range of colleagues and stakeholders, including users, reasonable adjustment specialists, and occupational health professionals.
- I have experience advocating for accessibility outside of my team and managing differing perspectives.
- I possess excellent planning and organizational skills, with a methodical approach to prioritizing work to meet deadlines.
- I work well within my immediate team (the Digital Accessibility Team) and the wider networks, upholding the values of equality, inclusion, and diversity.
- I have the ability to develop strong relationships with assistive technology suppliers, specialist partners, and internal teams and stakeholders.
- I keep up to date with advances in technology and manage the lifecycle of assistive technology solutions.
- I can pass security clearance and have the right to work in the UK.
Responsibilities
- I will develop and deliver initiatives to strengthen the assistive technology offer and support Members (MPs and Peers) and Parliamentary staff with varying accessibility needs in their day-to-day work.
- I will lead the provision, development, and implementation of assistive technology solutions, ensuring accessibility is integrated into our provisioning and digital support.
- I will build internal capability and enhance familiarity with a wide range of assistive software and hardware solutions.
- I will support the End User Service and other customer-facing teams in developing the skills needed to recommend appropriate technologies, including assistive technologies, to customers with accessibility requirements.
- I may provide support in installing and using assistive technologies, as well as assess, recommend, and oversee assistive technology solutions tailored to meet diverse user needs.
- I will conduct expert in-depth user assessments to determine optimal assistive technology configurations that enhance accessibility and user independence.
- I will partner with multi-disciplinary teams to embed accessibility considerations into product design and development according to WCAG and UK accessibility legislation.
- I will collaborate with customers in both Houses (Commons and Lords) and the Administration to deliver tailored training and support, promoting digital confidence and independence among users of assistive technologies.
- I will provide expert advice on reasonable adjustments, inclusive procurement practices, and the end-to-end lifecycle management of assistive technologies.
- I will lead and coordinate accessibility audits of software, systems, and hardware, ensuring compatibility with assistive technologies.

I am part of the Digital Delivery team in the Parliamentary Digital Service (PDS), which is focused on digitizing our democracy by designing, supporting, and improving products and services to meet the needs and expectations of Members of Parliament and their staff, alongside other important groups such as Parliamentary staff, government officials, journalists, and the public. As a member of the Digital Accessibility Team, I contribute to delivering the Digital Accessibility Strategy, which aims to create an inclusive digital environment where everyone can access Parliament's information and services.
