We are looking for a Principal Data Engineer with technical excellence across the Data Engineering ecosystem. Our primary technologies include Python, Go, and SQL. Experience with GitHub, GCP (including BigQuery, Airflow/Composer, GKE, Cloud Run), dbt Cloud, and Azure via Terraform is essential. If you are not deeply familiar with some of these tools, we would love to see your eagerness to close those gaps—we can support you in this. You should also have proven technical leadership experience or significant contributions to large-scale data solutions, with stories of past deployments and lessons learned. A customer-focused mindset is crucial, as is the ability to extract value from data and make solutions scalable. Additionally, strong communication skills are necessary for building relationships with colleagues at all levels.
Responsibilities
As a Principal Data Engineer, you will lead transformative technical initiatives that empower faster, data-driven decisions impacting our customers and their pets. You will mentor and guide a team of 20 talented Platform/Data/Analytics Engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing. Your role will involve driving the evolution of our data platforms by shaping the design, deployment, and ongoing support of our tooling and capabilities for data streaming, MLOps, and batch- and real-time analytics. You will focus on critical aspects like reducing the time to first insight for internal customers, as well as proactively minimizing the likelihood and impact of future incidents.
