Requirements
Must:
- Deep experience with Microsoft identity stack, including Active Directory and Entra ID (Azure AD), as well as associated infrastructure such as AD FS and Azure AD Connect.
- Excellent knowledge of Active Directory 2016/2019 design, troubleshooting, and administration.
- Practical understanding of Active Directory security concepts (Tier-0/Tier-1, PAWs) and lateral movement risks, as well as PAW/jump pattern design and rollout.
- Experience in Active Directory hardening aligned with CIS, including DC baselines, host firewalls, and no-Internet DC patterns.
- Experience with Entra ID controls at scale, including Conditional Access (MFA/device/risk) and Privileged Identity Management (PIM) for roles and groups.
- Strong background in GPO design/governance for Tier-0/Tier-1, SPN hygiene, gMSA adoption, and service-account policies.
- Automation-first mindset with proficiency in PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, KQL, Terraform, and Python.
- Hands-on experience with tools such as BloodHound/AzureHound and PingCastle for collection, analysis, and driving remediation.
- Familiarity with the Quest ecosystem, specifically Active Roles and Change Auditor (or equivalent) for RBAC and change/drift tracking.
- Experience with Microsoft Intune or a strong understanding of mobile device management (MDM), mobile application management (MAM), and Conditional Access.
- Strong understanding of security protocols including OAuth2/OIDC, SAML, and experience with PKI/AD CS.
- Familiarity with least privilege principles, separation of duties, auditability, and confident engagement with Information Security teams.
- Basic networking knowledge including HTTP, SMTP, DNS, TCP/IP, proxies, and load balancers.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting to technical and senior audiences.
- ITIL certification is desirable and familiarity with structured change management processes.
Responsibilities
In this role, I will be responsible for joining the Enterprise Directory Services (EDS) team as a hands-on engineer. My focus will be on day-to-day operations and security hardening across Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD). I will work closely with platform Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and the wider team to deliver Business As Usual (BAU) tickets, implement hardening baselines, and execute engineering changes. My tasks will include efficiently triaging and resolving incidents, service requests, and standard changes across AD/Entra ID, PKI, AD FS, and Quest Active Roles, ensuring adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
I will implement Tier-0/DC hardening strategies, manage Group Policy Object (GPO) governance, and enhance security through Kerberos/LDAP protections and Conditional Access/PIM controls. My engineering expertise will be pivotal in executing changes based on SME/architect designs, utilizing PowerShell and Microsoft Graph for automation and configuration management. Additionally, I will conduct security remediation using tools like BloodHound/AzureHound and PingCastle, while actively contributing to monitoring, operational quality, and compliance processes. Collaboration with SMEs and various teams will be essential, and I will participate in major-incident support and knowledge sharing as part of my role.
Description
I am seeking a Technical Consultant to join our Enterprise Directory Services team with a starting date as soon as possible. This role is initially offered for a duration of 12 months, with a hybrid working arrangement—three days a week on-site at our London or Surrey office. The daily rate for this position ranges from £550 to £650 and is deemed inside IR35. The focus of this position is on collaboration and delivery, contributing expert work under established standards and designs, rather than owning product roadmaps or leading programs.
