Requirements
Must:
- Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or Information Technology.
- Holds professional level certifications such as ITIL (Foundation or higher), BCS Certificate in Service Design, ISO/IEC 20000 Practitioner, Service Integration and Management (SIAM), Lean Six Sigma, TOGAF, AgilePM, or equivalent experience.
- Experience leading and line managing Service Designers, providing direction, coaching, and professional development.
- Track record of deputising for senior technology leaders, engaging with senior stakeholders and governance forums.
- Experience designing secure or air-gapped platforms within the government sector.
- Knowledge of NCSC, GDS, and UK government security frameworks.
- Demonstrate in-depth understanding of service design principles and IT service management frameworks.
- Understand enterprise and technical architecture concepts.
- Lead co-design workshops and apply human-centred design methods.
- Awareness of accessibility, inclusion, and usability standards.
- Proven experience leading service design, delivery, and governance of large-scale IT or digital services.
- Experience producing and maintaining service blueprints, operating models, SLAs, and OLAs.
- Demonstrate success in building relationships with senior stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with Technical Architects, Service Owners, Product Owners, and delivery teams.
- Developed service design options and advised on time, cost, quality, and trade-offs.
- Experience designing business continuity, disaster recovery, and resilience solutions.
- Used operational data and metrics to deliver optimisation opportunities.
- Maintain continuous professional development and awareness of emerging tools.
Responsibilities
- Lead the coordination of Service Design activity across the Technology and Operations portfolio.
- Provide leadership and management of the Service Design function.
- Guide teams and stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and supportable services.
- Translate business, user, and operational requirements into coherent service designs.
- Create end-to-end Service Design Packages (SDPs).
- Understand Agile and user-centred design approaches.
- Conduct co-design workshops and apply human-centred design methods.
- Influence senior stakeholders through credible, evidence-based recommendations.
- Work with delivery teams to translate requirements into practical service models.
- Maintain service blueprints, operating models, SLAs, and OLAs.
- Identify and deliver optimisation opportunities using operational data and metrics.
- Maintain awareness of emerging tools and techniques for continuous professional development.
Description
We are a Public Sector organisation located in Milton Keynes, seeking a Lead Service Designer to spearhead our Service Design activities. We offer a contract role with a competitive rate of £580 per day, inside IR35, for a duration of 6 months. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team towards delivering services that meet both user and business needs, while adhering to high standards of security and operational efficiency.
