Must:
We are looking for candidates with proven application support experience, ideally within complex enterprise environments. A strong working knowledge of Linux, Python, and XML is essential, and familiarity with Perl, HTML, CSS, VBScript, and JavaScript would be a plus. Understanding of academic or public-facing library systems (e.g., Alma, Primo, E-Prints) is advantageous. You should possess strong problem-solving skills, technical diagnosis capabilities, and a proactive approach to service improvement. Experience in change and release management, including testing and deployment, is crucial. Excellent communication skills are necessary, enabling you to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Awareness of equality, accessibility, and sustainability in technology delivery is also important.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will maintain and improve our application support processes, service level agreements (SLAs), and overall service levels. You will manage incidents, investigate root causes, and coordinate effective resolutions. Driving system upgrades, migrations, and managing other technical debt projects will be part of your duties. You’ll coordinate testing and release activities across various platforms and provide second and third-line support across multiple enterprise applications. Additionally, you will assess and implement change requests in alignment with service management principles, support data governance, service design, and compliance processes, and engage with cross-functional teams and end users to ensure a positive service delivery experience.
Description
We are offering a Fixed-Term Lead Application Support position for 18 months, based in Birmingham with a hybrid work model of 2 to 3 days in the office. The salary for this position ranges from £45,000 to £55,000. This hands-on role focuses on supporting and enhancing enterprise applications within a large, complex IT environment, emphasizing service quality, user experience, and technical resilience.
