Requirements

Must:
- Node.js is your PRIMARY backend language, with recent roles being Node.js-native. - You have led a squad of 3–5 engineers with accountability for sprint delivery. - You have owned sprint commitments to a Product Owner, managing delivery slips and scope changes. - You have coached engineers day-to-day, conducting regular 1:1s and providing specific feedback. - You have designed and run a technical hiring loop, conducting interviews and providing written recommendations. - You have owned PostgreSQL in production, including schema design and complex queries. - You have deployed and operated services on AWS, working with EKS and IAM. - You have been the primary incident responder, managing production issues and writing postmortems. - Your CV contains specific metrics related to system performance and reliability. - You are based in the UK and can work in our London office four days a week for the first six months.

Responsibilities

- Own sprint planning, capacity commitment, and backlog finalization for your squad. - Lead daily standups, identify blocks, and resolve delivery slips promptly. - Maintain and enforce a Definition of Done for all PRs and features. - Manage sprint-level risks and communicate scope changes proactively to the Product Owner. - Write, review, and approve PRs as the technical gatekeeper for your squad. - Enforce quality gates in CI/CD pipelines and collaborate with QA on testing strategies. - Lead feature and module design and escalate cross-cutting decisions to the Architect. - Monitor post-release performance to ensure that shipped code works as intended. - Drive codebase refactoring in alignment with the MongoDB to PostgreSQL migration strategy. - Serve as incident commander for production issues, coordinating fixes and stakeholder communication. - Own reliability improvements, monitoring, alerting, and observability initiatives. - Write and drive post-incident technical corrective actions in collaboration with the Architect. - Provide coaching and feedback to squad developers, fostering growth and skill development. - Design and lead the technical interview loop for backend developer hires and recommend candidates. - Identify skill gaps early and collaborate with management on team development plans. - Apply and enforce security protocols, ensuring data handling and input paths are secure. - Flag security risks during PR reviews to uphold secure code practices.
