Requirements
Must:
We are looking for candidates with essential skills in Java or C++ software design, coding, and testing. Proficiency in configuration management tools such as Bitbucket and Artifactory is required, along with experience in change and task management using JIRA for managing work backlogs, problem reports, and action management. A solid understanding of unit testing and broader software testing skills is also necessary. Familiarity with Agile methodologies, including Scrum, Kanban, or Scaled Agile (SaFE), is essential.
Desirable skills include experience with Python, software build processes from configuration management using Jenkins or Git Runners, and a continuous improvement mindset to build a continuous integration and continuous development (CI/CD) pipeline. Experience with Linux-based infrastructure and operating systems, as well as knowledge of requirements management tools like DOORs or Polarion, is also beneficial.
Please note that all applicants must have worked within the Defence/Military industry in the last 12 months or be capable of obtaining Security Clearance (SC level minimum).
Responsibilities
As a C++/Java Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and testing of our Runtime and Middleware products using industry-standard tools and methods. Your role will involve developing our systems in collaboration with a project team to deliver high-quality, robust software that meets customer requirements on time and within budget. You will define our solutions by working closely with Systems Engineering to develop precise requirements and a strategic testing approach. Additionally, you will provide support for our deployed systems by coordinating with customer support functions to ensure software products are maintained effectively, both on land and at sea. You will also help shape our strategy by collaborating with the software management function to foster the development of skills, technology, and improved ways of working.
Description
This is a contract position for 6 months, and you will be required to work on-site four days a week in Crawley, West Sussex. This opportunity is outside of IR35, providing you with the flexibility to manage your work arrangements effectively.
