Requirements
Must:
We are seeking a candidate with strong experience in deploying and managing physical and virtual Linux systems, specifically CentOS, Rocky Linux, and Ubuntu, in an enterprise environment. You should have a solid understanding of web technologies and experience supporting Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) or large-scale LAMP applications. Additionally, solid shell scripting skills are essential, and knowledge of automation tools like Ansible, monitoring tools such as Nagios, and database systems like MySQL would be desirable.
Responsibilities
In this role, I will provide daily support for Linux services, including specialist support for key systems. I will ensure the availability of services for teaching, research, and other functions by following up on monitoring alerts and maintaining system security and backups. I will also assist with planning and implementing regular maintenance tasks such as patching and code releases. Participation in system monitoring, disaster recovery preparation, and being part of the on-call rota to deliver out-of-hours support when required will also be part of my responsibilities.
Description
This is a hybrid role that combines remote working with time on campus and in data centers. I will be part of the Platform Services Team at the University in London, where I will help maintain and develop our Linux infrastructure, supporting various functions, including teaching and research.
