Must:
We are looking for a Scala Developer who has Scala/Play development skills, experience with agile development techniques (including test-driven development and paired programming), and a solid understanding of building scalable, distributed web applications in Scala (candidates with Java experience and personal projects in Scala may be considered). You should have experience working with microservices, REST, and asynchronous event-driven programming. Additionally, you should demonstrate experience with automated testing solutions and possess strong problem-solving skills, allowing you to logically break down complex issues into manageable parts. A proven ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience is essential. Any knowledge of MongoDB or large datasets would be appreciated, though not a requirement. Familiarity with version control systems like Git and experience implementing RESTful APIs for integration with internal and external systems are also required. Lastly, please ensure you have the right to work in the UK and the ability to pass BPSS vetting.
Responsibilities
As a Scala Developer with us, you will build, deploy, and operate outstanding digital services within an agile environment that meet well-defined user needs. You will be responsible for delivering application designs that adhere to web standards from the outset. Collaboration with design specialists will be crucial as you translate designs into high-quality websites, apps, HTML emails, and interactive experiences. You will contribute to the development and continual enhancement of our products while partnering with product managers, design specialists, business analysts, and other software developers to ensure a consistent user experience. Your role will include participating in rapid development cycles of user-driven digital prototypes, writing and testing production-quality sustainable code for world-class user interfaces, and ensuring that new and updated digital services are thoroughly tested for accessibility. Mentoring junior front-end developers, contributing to a culture of continual improvement, and maintaining a robust automated test suite for our continuous integration environment will also be part of your responsibilities.
