Requirements
Must:
We are looking for someone with proven Java development skills and a strong track record in designing, developing, testing, and optimizing applications for public-facing services. You should have experience working within UK Government/GDS environments and be familiar with associated standards. Hands-on experience with AWS and Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform is essential. You will need to demonstrate proficiency in Agile development methodologies and tools, including Jira. A collaborative mindset is important, as you will be working independently and as part of a team. Strong communication skills are necessary to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders. We also value an eagerness to learn new technologies and continuously promote development best practices.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary agile scrum teams to design, develop, test, and maintain user interfaces for new digital services. You will take ownership of code quality and best practices while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. Using Agile methodologies, you will iterate and deliver features while working closely with stakeholders and other developers throughout the development lifecycle. Additionally, you will help shape solutions using your experience and creativity to solve real user problems in the public sector.
Description
While not essential, we would appreciate knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices. Experience with frontend frameworks or additional backend languages would also be desirable. We look forward to welcoming a talented Software Developer (Java) to our growing consultancy at Mercator Digital.
