Requirements
Must:
- Degree level qualification (or equivalent) and/or relevant experience in a technical discipline, preferably in food technology or development.
- Experience of working cross-functionally and with third parties.
- Proven track record of leading projects from brief to market delivery.
- Strong passion for creative food product design and development.
- Excellent communication and project management skills.
- Attention to detail, especially with experimentation, data recording, and analysis.
- Strong time management and priority-setting abilities.
- Knowledge of health and safety practices.
- European language skills are highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- I will plan, organize, and execute a variety of project types under the guidance from my line manager, working closely with R&D experts from various fields.
- I will collaborate with marketing teams in global, European, and local country teams to define project scopes at the start of projects.
- I will utilize my creative talents to develop exceptional products.
- I will lead the technical delivery of projects, including diverse tasks such as product concept development, formulation design, lab and pilot plant prototypes, cost calculations, specifications, quality assessments, legislation compliance checks, and claims assessments.
- I will manage supplier relationships while collaborating closely with other functions such as Procurement.
- I will lead and manage pilot plant and factory trials for prototype and product development.
- I will write and manage specifications and systems data for the products I work on.
- I will provide key updates for our Innovation Process Management and other relevant systems.
- I will develop selling stories and support Customer Development teams during sell-in meetings.
- I will provide support and training for junior members of the team.
Description
We are currently seeking a Senior Product Developer to join our team, working with our global FMCG client, Unilever, recognized for its iconic brands such as Ben & Jerry's, Knorr, Walls, and Marmite. This position is based at our client's Research & Development facility located at Colworth Science Park in Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire, accessible by car. It also serves as their global center of excellence in safety and sustainability sciences. This is a full-time temporary role for maternity cover until March 31, 2026, requiring 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. We offer competitive compensation for this role, paying up to £46,000 per annum, pro rata, depending upon experience. The role currently allows for a mix of remote and onsite working, subject to adjustments based on business requirements. The Unilever Ice Cream business in Europe is extensive and successful, and the EU Ice Cream Research Development and Innovation (RD&I) team is the driving force behind the creation of innovative ice cream products across our renowned global brands (e.g., Magnum, Carte d'Or, Cornetto, Walls), premium brands (e.g., Ben & Jerry's, GROM), and regional brands (e.g., Cremissimo, Ingman, Evga, Cucciolone). Our team is agile and closely connected to countries and markets to deliver global, regional, and local projects. In this role, I will be the first point of contact in an area of the portfolio, managing a portfolio of projects across innovation, quality, complexity, and cost reduction while using my understanding of consumer and customer needs to shape and deliver brilliant, sustainable product experiences.
