Requirements
Must:
- Proven experience with Codesys (essential)
- Strong understanding of PLC programming and IEC Structured Text
- Android Java / XML skills (desirable, but not essential)
- Ability to test and troubleshoot on real machines, not just in isolation
- Familiarity with the Hermes standard (ideally version 1.6) or similar communication protocols (nice to have)
- Experience using Git (nice to have)
- Background in automation, mechatronics, or control systems (nice to have)
Responsibilities
I am seeking a Controls Software Engineer to support a key system upgrade by enhancing an existing machine communication system (Hermes) from version 1.0 to 1.6 / 1.7. This role involves improving the current framework rather than building from scratch. You will upgrade functions, test your PLC code on live machines, and ensure smooth operation throughout the process.
Description
This contract role offers £60 per hour (outside IR35) and is based in Glasgow, allowing for hybrid working arrangements with some on-site work required. The initial contract length is 4 months, with a start date as soon as possible. This is a hands-on position where you will see your code directly improving machine performance, supported by a flexible remote working policy and a supportive technical team on-site.
